Triumph for school at Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards 2008 through Vision’s inspiring new scheme for the broadcasters of the future.

Becky Hardesty, pupil of the The Royal National College for the Blind, became the first recipient of the recently launched initiative of the Vision Charity, SchoolsRadio.com. Sponsored by Arqiva this award was for the most outstanding audio production produced by one or more pupils in full time primary or secondary education during the course of the previous twelve months.
The other short-listed finalists were:-
- Maxine Bradley from King Edward VI School, Morpeth who conducted an interview with the Manager of Bamburgh Castle
- Sophie Sinclair from Ringwood School in Hampshire who produces and co-hosts a Breakfast Show.
President of Vision Charity, Peter Thompson, said “We are enormously proud to have got to this stage and were astonished by the standard of the submissions which we received from all over the country. At a time when there is a recognition that there should be a greater focus on the provision of diverse and inspiring opportunities for our youth, it is so wonderful to be able to provide a forum for the talent that undoubtedly exists in our schools. We have great ambitions to move this project further and would encourage all schools to get involved”
SchoolsRadio.com Patron, the Broadcaster Nicholas Parsons, who presented the award said ”How marvellous it was to encourage young people into the wonderful world of broadcasting”.
The scheme’s other patron is the author Ken Follett.
