About this programme

The idea for this piece came from the Isca college radio crew, this is a group of students from Year 7 - Year 9 who produce programmes for our college radio station on a voluntary basis. They had identified that being over weight and eating unhealthily was a problem for some of our students and wanted to find out more about the causes and possible solutions to this situation and how they might improve their diet.

As they investigated the topic they found that healthy eating and access to good food involved a great many more interconnected social factors that influence people's choices about the food they eat. Through interviewing professionals in the food industry they made several surprising discoveries particularly around the label 'organic' food which can be very misleading to the public. The students were very keen to gather a wide range of local opinion to build an accurate and coherent picture before they came to any conclusions this included interviewing the school nurse members of the public Isca students and the executive head chef of Jamie Oliver's 'Fifteen' restaurant at Watergate Bay in Cornwall.

They worked together especially well as a team each adopting different roles as the need arose.
